Sir Sidney Kidman now stares out from the 3.5-metre high wall after a day’s work by Trina Collins.

The artist, also known as Poncho Army, was commissioned to deploy the spray paint for BOOMDubbo’s first works.

In one week she will transform five locations as part of the project’s mission to add value to the CBD and significantly increase visitation through art.

Trina has already completed portraits of Kate Leigh, Ben Hall and “Colleen’s Thorn Bird”, the “heroes, anti-heroes, famous and infamous characters” of the region chosen as the first works of BOOMDubbo.

On Wednesday the rear of the Macquarie Credit Union building will gain another portrait adjoining that of Kidman, the pastoralist who once controlled vast holdings in inland Australia.

Sir Henry Kater, famed for establishing the Egelabra merino stud near Warren, is the fifth in the commission.

Wollongong-based Trina said it was “super exciting” to be involved in the project at Dubbo and was especially satisfied with her efforts on a 20-metre by 2.1-metre surface at the Fast Lane Drive Thru Coffee.

“I really like the Kate Leigh one, it’s bold, the lines are quite simple but it really stands out,” she said.

“I think people will talk about it,” she said.

Kim Goldsmith, project manager of the privately-backed BOOMDubbo, said for the first works they were working with the properties that BAWD Property Trust had available to it.

“We’re really keen for other property owners and business operators to contact us about commissioning an artwork,” she said.

“We’re fast going to run out of surfaces.

“We have plenty of artists, locally and visiting, who are interested.”

Available surfaces could include “a roller door or a wall inside a shop”.

“BOOMDubbo is keen to see other people invest in making Dubbo a vibrant community and using art to add value to our CBD,” Ms Goldsmith said.
