Charity bowls day
THE Men of League Newcastle and Hunter branch will hold its annual charity bowls day at Nelson Bay Bowling Club on Sunday from 9.30am. The format is for men, women and mixed fours for bowlers and non-bowlers with prizes. Players are encouraged to wear their favourite footy team colours and the day includes two games of 12 ends with a roast dinner – all for just $20 per person. Rugby league funny man John Peard and former Cronulla hooker Stuart Raper are special guests. Bookings: Richard Girvan on 0449 138 119 or the club on 4981 1272.
Gittoes lifts title
NELSON Bay’s gun bowler Shannon Gittoes won the champion of champions title at the Water Board club recently. Gittoes won the match 31-21 but the scoreline did not reflect the titanic struggle with his tough opponent. Gittoes will represent Newcastle at the NSW bowls championships at Port City Bowling Club in Port Macquarie in November.
