The Murray Basin Rail Project will deliver important upgrades to Victoria’s rail freight network to meet the increasing demand for freight services.
This project will drive economic growth, create hundreds of new jobs and provide a much-needed boost to the transport industry, agricultural sector and regional communities.
The project involves standardizing the rail freight lines servicing the Murray Basin in NW Victoria.
The project will also increase axle loading on these lines from 19 to 21 tonnes.
I commend Daniel Andrews and the Labor team for committing the funds for this long overdue project.
The community might be interested to know that I have recently written Bill Shorten to request a further $100m in funding from the Federal Government to increase the axle loading to 23 tonnes which will help pave the way for the transcontinental railway and passenger rail.
