MARIAN Arnoldthe ABC Classic FM presenter who has strong links to Orange through her mother Pauline, has announced her retirement after 34 years in broadcasting.
Ms Arnold grew up in the ‘fertile’ environment of a household filled with music.
During more than three decades as a a broadcaster producer and presenter Ms Arnold has also been closely involved in live concert broadcasts, presenting numerous Sydney Symphony Orchestra concerts and Sunday Live in Sydney.
She has also presented every Sydney International Piano Competition broadcast since 1992.
“Presenting and programming music on radio has taught me so much,” she said.
“Not only about music itself, but the art of listening and the nature and craft of radio.
“It has been both a privilege and a pleasure.”
ABC Classic FM Manager Richard Buckham said as soon as Ms Arnold announced her retirement on air, messages began flowing in for the popular presenter
“They spoke of Marian’s personal warmth, their appreciation of her incredible musical knowledge, the wonderful companionship she has offered on air for so many years, and the journeys of music discovery that her programs have always offered,” he said.
Ms Arnold is a graduate of Sydney University and initially started her career as a music teacher.
However in her 20s she was drawn to performance as a singer.
She joined ABC Classic FM in 1981.
Ms Arnold’s final broadcasts will be on Saturday and Sunday October 10 and 11 in the 9am to noon slots.
