A cool change and possible showers are heading Maitland’s way.It was nice while it lasted.
Maitland’s recent warm weather will depart this week, with a cold front bringing winds and possible showers.
Weatherzone is predicting maximum temperatures of 16 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday in Maitland, with lows of seven and six degrees respectively.
The threat of rain will loom until at least Sunday with warmer temperatures returning Monday.
“A fairly strong cold front will be pushing up the coast,” Weather Watch meterologist Anthony Cornelius said.
“We’ll see a broad low pressure system which will develop near the Tasman sea.
“It won’t be close to the coast, it will sit a fair way offshore.
“But it’s likely tocombine with a slow-moving high [pressure system] and will be pushing very direct onshore, southerly winds.”
While the coast will be mostly affected, the winds will be felt in Maitland.
“Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be quite windy,” Mr Cornelius said.
“You could wipe six, seven degrees off the apparent temperatures to get an idea of the wind chill.”
But he believes Maitland may be spared the coming rain.
“It will be mostly on the coast, so this will be a very coastal affair,” Mr Cornelius said.
“With the alignment of those winds it’s going to be very southerly, so it’s not going to be pushing those showers too far inland.
“There may be a chance on Friday, but otherwise mostly coastal and offshore.”
